The mission of the Shelby County Arts Council is to support, nurture and promote arts and cultural organizations and artists in Shelby County, enhancing the quality of life for citizens and promoting economic growth. The Shelby County Arts Council serves the entire community, reaching all economic levels, ages, and races.

Community Benefits

The Shelby County Arts Council benefits the community by improving the quality of life and making the community a better place to live and work. It benefits individuals and youth by providing an outlet for creativity and a means to nurture talent. Children that develop their artistic talents improve their ability to learn and develop self-discipline. The long-term goal of the Shelby County Arts Council is to build a world-class arts education and performance facility to serve the citizens of Shelby County with premier arts programs.

Recent Local Efforts

Over the past year, the Shelby County Arts Council has called upon the Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham for advice and counsel and for networking with similar arts organizations in the surrounding counties. The Shelby County Arts Council has a close relationship with the Shelby County Board of Education to ensure that outreach programs coordinate with the curriculum of the public school system. Relationships with private schools and home-school families have begun as well.

Additionally, the Shelby County Arts Council teamed with the ARC of Pelham this past summer to host the Kindermusik classes. The Alabama School of Fine Arts is providing instruction for a youth string program.

Memberships & Alliances

Instructors and board members of the Shelby County Arts Council are members of regional arts associations. The Shelby County Arts Council is a member of the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama.
