There is an active scam underway across the State in which you may receive an SMS message claiming to be from “Alabama DMV” regarding your vehicle registration and outstanding tickets. (image below) There is no such entity as the Alabama Department of Vehicles (DMV). In Alabama, driver licensing services are administered by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Driver License Division, and vehicle registration is handled by the Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) with County License departments or Probate offices acting as agents.
In the text a URL link shows (https://alabama.org-cehuw.bond/revenue), which is not affiliated with the State of Alabama or any Alabama County office. This URL is owned by a company in China.
Shelby County and State ALEA Offices DO NOT send unsolicited text messages threatening prosecution or requesting personal information or payment. Any such message should be considered suspicious and deleted immediately.
