The following agencies are funded by United Way of Central Alabama and Shelby County:


  • Arc of Shelby County – provides services/supports individuals with developmental disabilities www.thearcofshelby.org
  • SafeHouse of Shelby County – provides services/supports victims of domestic and sexual violence www.safehouse.org
  • Developing Alabama Youth Foundation- provides academic opportunities for at-risk adolescents www.thedayprogram.com 
  • Shelby Emergency Assistance – provides services to meet the basic needs of people in crisis www.shelbyemergencyassistance.com
  • Family Connection – stabilize the lives of at-risk families, children, and youth www.familyconnection-inc.org

  • Boy Scouts of America - Greater Alabama Council – character building, citizenship training, and physical fitness www.1bsa.org
  • Campfire USA – engages youth and teens in building essentials skills for life www.campfire-al.org

  • Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama – helps girls develop their full individual potential through a myriad of enriching experiences www.girlscouts.org
  • Glenwood, Autism and Behavioral Health Center – provides services for children, adolescents, adults and families who are affected by autism or a mental health disorder www.glenwood.org
  • Literacy Council – provides literacy information and referral hotline for children, adult and English as a Second Language learners alliteracycouncil.wordpress.com
  • Positive Maturity – offers counselng, social, volunteer and employment opportunities for senior adults www.positivematurity.org
  • Salvation Army – Birmingham Area Command – to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination birminghamsalvationarmy.org
  • Workshops, Inc. – provide vocational training, employment opportunities and support service to people with disabilities in Central Alabama www.workshopsinc.org

  • The Crisis Center of Birmingham – provides confidential counseling, crisis and suicide intervention, services for victims of sexual assault, services to individuals with mental illness  www.crisiscenterbham.com

  • Children’s Aid Society – to assist children and their families in meeting immediate needs for care and safety, helps youth transitioning out of foster care www.childrensaid.org
