Chief Facilities Management Officer Shelby County
Mr. Gauntt serves as the Chief Facilities Management Officer with Shelby County. Mr. Gauntt is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a BS and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
Mr. Gauntt began his career with Shelby County in 2000.
Mr. Gauntt started his career with Shelby County working in the highway department from 2000-2004 as a graduate civil engineer and from 2004 to 2013 as one of the senior civil engineers where he designed and managed the construction of numerous roadway, intersection and bridge projects.
Mr. Gauntt worked from 2013 to 2018 for the County as the Chief Engineer in the Department of Development Services where he was responsible for the overall management of the Shelby County regional municipal solid waste landfill operations, litter control operations, animal control and managing capital improvement projects.
Mr. Gauntt currently serves as the Chief Facilities Management Officer and is responsible for operating units that include the Shelby County Airport, Facilities and General Services and Environmental Services.
The Shelby County Airport is a general aviation facility owned and operated by the Shelby County Commission. The 75 foot wide asphalt runway is 5001 feet in length. The airport offers two flight schools and two airplane maintenance shops. The County owns and leases multiple types of hangars that serve the approximately 160 aircraft that are based on the field.
Facilities and General Services is responsible for maintaining all Shelby County assets which include building structures, building grounds, recreational parks and sports facilities. These locations include the Shelby County Airport, Shelby County Sherriff's Operations Center and Adult Jail, Sheriff's Training Center and Firing Range Complex, Regional Juvenile Detention Facility, two County Services Buildings, Shelby County Fire and Emergency Medical Training Complex, County Courthouse, Exhibition Center, Heardmont Park Complex, Dunnavant Valley Fields Sports Complex, Cahaba River Park, Double Oak Park and numerous other buildings and parks throughout the County. The Department of Facilities and General Services frequently partners with other agencies such as Cities, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Alabama Department of Transportation, University of Montevallo, Jeff State Community College, County and City Boards of Education, The American Village and private industry in Shelby County on projects of all types.
Environmental Services is responsible for the operation of the Shelby County Regional Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and Construction / Demolition (C/D) landfill, litter control operations and animal control.
Mr. Gauntt lives in Shelby County and is married to Frances Gauntt and they have two children, Miller and Sadie.
