The single location reduces multiple rental costs for the County and provides convenience for the public and entities collaboration needs. Most of the high traffic services are located on the first floor. The Shelby County License Office which has been operating out of the Inverness location for the past 10 years, offers the same services, including driver license renewals and car/boat registrations. The Water Services Billing Department is also in this space and has moved from its operation in Westover. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is also on the first floor and can address driver license testing and new issuances, Star IDs, CDL renewals and boat licenses. One Sheriff’s Office employee is on the first floor to issue pistol permits, vehicle crash reports and a variety of other law enforcement items. On the opposite side of the lobby is a 100+ seat community room that is used for voting and other large events.

The Sheriff’s office has moved its substation from Greystone to the second floor of the 280 County Services Building. Shelby 911 has moved its entire operations from the Pelham county services building to the new 280 building. It dispatches fire and EMS services along with law enforcement throughout the county with up to 12 dispatchers there 24 hours a day. Shelby 911 answers about 80,000 calls per year.

The 3rd floor houses Central Alabama Wellness, which provides a variety of services to children, adolescents and adults dealing with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders and intellectual disabilities. They provide prevention and counseling services meeting their clients closer to where they live. Also on the 3rd floor are offices for 58 INC. which is Shelby County’s economic development agency.
