Shelby County Department of Inspection Services was established on October 1, 1988 to protect the public’s life, health and welfare in the built environment.  This is accomplished by the enforcement of the following adopted International Codes as well as the National Electrical Code.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED TO PURCHASE A BUILDING PERMIT FOR MY PROJECT?
Any and all new construction projects along with additions, remodels, renovations, electrical service upgrades, tenant build outs, moved homes, manufactured homes, recreational vehicle connections; plumbing, gas, and mechanical installations and other projects are required to purchase a building permit.  If you are unsure, please contact our Plans Examiner at (205) 620-6650.
